You sure that wasn’t by Bob Sagget? Or saint xharles the 9th? I tease at the expense of Terry not yours. It’s patterns like these I always wonder how someone can claim ownership 🙃

One of the forum members recently fished several stillwaters in that country north of us and in the province just above Washington. On one of the lakes, they were fishing size 18 bronze window tinted midges. Well heck, I'm going up there a week from tomorrow and even though I know the difference in time will significantly alter (most likely significantly but maybe not) not only what size and color midges are prevalent but about a dozen other factors that I can only begin to guess at. My version of the bronze midge (sizes 16 and 18 shown on Martuto C40HW hooks - Decorative Films" Solyx bronze matte material).

I don't have any trouble cutting a strip with an exacto knife and a stainless-steel straight edge but trying to get that damn sticky back off the film is a pain.

Bronze?

Tied here as a PMD. I have friends coming to MT this summer and, crowds permitting, I was going to meet them at a tailwater for a few days of classy, match-the-hatch fishing, so stuff like this should work (then we’ll go to the east slope and I’ll let them throw foam things at cutts for a change of pace). Here’s the video if you’re interested.

hook - WFC Model 3 #16
thread - Uni 8/0 pale yellow
shuck - Congo Hair brown
abdomen - tying thread
wingpad - 1mm foam tan
thorax - Orvis Spectrablend PMD
hackle - ginger

Try different thread color(s) then wrap with Rootbeer Krystal Flash…for a bronze look.

Thanks Fin - funny how certain materials must NOT be substituted according to this expert or that expert where this other expert says use this as a substitute, eh! I'm going to try a couple more today using flashabou beneath the decorative film, just for giggles.

That's a great looking bug and I love the wing buds and do believe they can be important in a fly but I sure struggle trying to tie them in (despite watching a half dozen videos). Oh yes, @Engee did really well the other day fishing a midge with the body of stripped peacock herl.

Rootbeer - one of the guys I'm going up to BC with next week had one box full of "Rootbeer Floats" (rootbeer flashabou, copper bead, no gills) that worked really well on "Hose".
