Not a great day.
1 for 3 on rezzie coho at beach 1. Moved to beach 2. Blown out by the north wind. Saladfest. Do I go to beach 3? Nope, it’s a long walk. Live to fish another day…..like tomorrow. 😂
But... much better than a workday or chore day. Some action, and the discipline to look ahead to tomorrow! 🙂

Looks like something is burning near the Everett waterfront.
You could see the Smokey air moving in from the north this morning. Tomorrow might be ugly.

My new coping strategy, at least as of yesterday morning, was to order the deep fried fisherman's platter at a local community hospital cafeteria, as one does, for lunch. This was not a good coping strategy. As far as food goes, it's like ordering Italian food in Seoul. But not even at the legit Korea's best Italian food place, which probably is top notch, but rather like Italian food from food court in an almost abandoned outskirts-of-Seoul mall. I guess a similar comparison might be getting "the winner's fried ocean plate" from an airport in say Kansas City.

Intestinal agendas kept me focused for the next *** hours with nary a thought of fishing, but, well, the trade off was not in my favor.

Take homes:

The Captain's Platter is meal best left alone unless you can visually confirm fresh shrimp, fish and oysters- obtained from the ocean- are breaded and fried at a legit fish shack within hours of their harvest.

If the server is recommending you wait for the next bucket of fried fish to come out to get a "good one" you should trust their professionalism and not hurry the affair and agreeably request "no, that last greasy half-busted up piece of maybe cod and those there ragged fishless and oil-slicked golden carb jackets are fine by me..."

Ordering the Fisherman's plate impresses no one.

The Fisherman's PLatter is always overpriced and overbreaded, at least at the places I encpounter it

Never, ever, order the Capn's Platter with a side of eggplant.
Sorry to hear....that’s the shits........

I worked as a fry cook at a restaurant as a teenager. All I want to say is never order any dish that is a mix of types of deep fried fish nuggets and is named something like Neptunes Platter, Treasures from the Sea, Captains Plate or the like.

*raises hand* pick me pick me 👋! Was your loop to loop a figure 8 or lasso? 😁🥳
Remember, if you accidentally tie a lasso, you must take the time to rub it out!

... the half twist that is. 🤣

Yeah, lost too many fish today. Some played just about to the beach, some hooked and a head shake or two and were gone. How it goes sometimes I guess. Only fish landed were two pinks and an adult rezzie. Always tomorrow ;).

One reason I was not to upset about lost fish was the fact I left an outfit worth roughly 1k when new on the beach yesterday, and when I arrived this morning it was still leaning against the driftwood I left it on 24 hours earlier. Luck or a few fisherman with actual scruples. Either way, I’ll call today a win!

Seriously, these pink salmon just turning the corner into the Sound can be delicious table fare. We just enjoyed two off the bbq. No downgrade whatsoever from the family.

First, these two fish were chrome bright, bled out, and put on ice immediately. Not too much effort to carry a soft side cooler to the beach with four of those small blue ice packets. The XL storage ziplock bag keeps everything tidy, then it's the larger cooler in the car for the trip home.

I'll play the odds to bring coho home, but hey, why not enjoy a mild tasting pink or two if your family is expecting salmon!

I'll pass on the pinks :censored:
Only complaint I have about the 4 I smoked is that I left them in too long and over did them. I'll gladly be taking some more home from the salt.

However, after taking home a chrome bright hen that cut white, I will probably avoid on bringing home ones I catch in rivers

You’d be surprised. The white mold on the fins and backs of both pinks and chums that people keep from rivers really adds to the flavor, so I’m told.
When deep fried in sand, it’s even better. 😉
