Puget Sound

FYI if you planned on retaining salmon in MA 13 after 5/15.

Our of curiosity what salmon would those be? Little too far south for White River Springers no?

They do raise WR springers at Minter, though I’m not sure if any actually return back there.
I may be wrong, but I think it is just chinook in general. I wish they would leave it open for hatchery coho retention and close it for chinook if that needs to be done. If I remember correctly, the vast majority of deep south sound chinook are of hatchery origin. There are always a decent amount surplus at the hatcheries down there.
I also wonder how much effort there is on chinook with ling cod currently being open.
They closed 13 for a short period a few years ago. I’d think it would open up again once the LOAF is released.
That’s just my guess. Hopefully others with more knowledge will chime in.

Yup they said they were delayed in negotiations and had to shut down until resolution
Cheers

I remember Reading some paper somewhere that there actually has been some Skagit origin wild fish that have been routinely returning to the nisqually River. They just found themselves there and are now protected stock outside of the endemic nisqually fish. Otherwise, I think that everything else is all hatchery origin.

Fished MA 10 from 5:00 until 1:30. Nice cloud cover and rain, but the west wind was an ass kicker.
Good number of fish to hand. Caught two yellow dotters today. Typical amount of beach trash. Bud Light Seltzer AKA White Claw in a different can was the drink of the day.

What’s the yellow spot on the SRC signify?

Nothing really. Just excessive pigmentation is my understanding. I just think it’s cool looking so I take pictures of those spots when I catch one that has them. One thing I will say about the two I caught today. The spots are a much paler / lighter color than the ones I’ve seen on canal and south sound fish.

Hit a different MA 10 beach this morning. Was there from 5:00 until 1:00, but didn’t fish that long. The water was just crap today.
Crap in the water, water was the color of crap and the tide didn’t move for crap.
The brisk SW wind had things stirred up pretty good. I took a long break, picked up some little and took an hour long beach nap.
I think one women thought I was unconscious as I heard her say “I hope he’s alright”. 😂
Five fish to hand. The only thing that works today was a salmon sized tan over yellow over white clouser with gold flash.
Back to the grind tomorrow.

At first I was lamenting the state of the world where some lady sees a guy passed out on the beach and does nothing. Then I realized she probably saw the mildewed rig in the lot, and here’s a guy in nitrile gloves and waders with beach trash he’s gathered around him, sawing figurative logs with a sweat stained ball cap over his eyes, and I figured any reasonable person might’ve made the same call. I, of course, will help anyone in waders; it’s just part of the Code.

I forgot how invigorating a beach nap is, lying in the rocks and sand. It was just what this less than spring chicken needed after getting up a 2:00 two days in a row due to this weekends stupid extra early high tides.
I was pretty much awake when she walked by. You are correct. She would have known I was ok earlier in my nap as I was likely clear cutting the beach with my snoring….

Migratory fisherman act prevents any disturbance to mammals resting onshore. Plus Stones was probably pretty well camo'd up surrounded by his midden of beach finds, empty Strawberry and Cream Alberto V05 and Hand Sanitizer etc, plastic bottles, packing wrap, shotgun shell casings....

Counterpoint, if you didn't know what the nitrile gloves were for, and you saw someone sleeping and wearing those on a beach, surrounded by hand sanitizer and Strawberry and Cream Alberto V05, you may leap to some Dexter-themed conclusions that are unfair to Stones who is a perfectly reasonable person perhaps excepting the 2AM tide chasing tendencies.

What I want to know is was the perfumed swimmer right there besides Stones, snoring away? In which case the bystander would certainly be correct to leave them be.

Can you imagine the fragrances of the two of them combined? I'm talking the perfumed swimmer, not the bystander, who could smell like Peony for all I care. Say J'Adore on the swimmer and a touch of ispopropyl from the hand sanitizer and still more Strawberry and Cream from the Alberto V05 on Stones? I mean that's gotta smell nothing like Tacoma and everything like a spring garden in Provence....
