Black n blue: the bruise - one of my favorite upper Columbia steelhead flies/Pat
rabbit strip never hurt either. I like this pattern because it has rabbit, but to me looks a bit 'elevated' compared to most rabbit strip flies (again IMO). I think Ed Ward said something like 'Just super glue a rabbit strip to a hook and your done'.

Newbury's Knuckle Dragger Golden Stone has become my second favorite nymph since I discovered it last winter. The green rock worm did nothing on the river I visited today.

I posted these before. It’s a pattern I put together to resemble my impression of a juvenile whitefish, which often have an amber sort of sheen to them underwater. I don’t know that it’s anything special, really more of a “guide fly” but it works well enough I’ve decided it needs a name. I think I’m gonna call it the Bitey Whitey.

I'd be happy knowing the materials and procedure that produced those bullies....

Definitely had higher hopes after the hot start. Only few bows for me, no browns. All on a black slump buster (no pic). Lots of taps today with only a few solid hookups.

Also hit a different lake yesterday for a few hours. Nothing at all on stripped flies so I switched over to fishing chironomids. A bunch of takes but only landed a couple smaller fish.

Got a late Christmas present!! Mid swing eat with a hard, acrobatic fight. The topping, wings, one JC eye and one red hackle was gone when the battle was over. I've been retiring my successful steelhead flies in a display case. One day I want to make a collage for the background of the shelf it's on made of pictures of the fish. Have a good evening folks.
