The Event:
Fall Fling 2022, Glenraven Ranch, somewhere high in the Okanogan

Starring:
Rick Lewis - The Host
Scott Salzer - The Oracle
Steve Mooney - The Giant Slayer
Tim Lockhart - The Storyteller (well someone has to embellish this stuff and convert it to legend!)

The Script:
I suppose the story tells itself well enough in the images below. I'll add, this semi-annual event has gone over 10 years now, bringing the best of friends together to share this pasttime of ours. Rick Lewis (Roper) is the founder, and has been generous enough to host this gathering every spring and fall. This time around we celebrated Rick's 70th birthday, living large on some of the best food and spirits found anywhere.

Meanwhile, on the water, the legends came out to play. In a flurry of heated activity, we managed to flesh out hidden gems not wanting to be found; reconfirm our hunch that a once thriving population of hearty brokies still had a pulse (in the wake of mismanagement); and finally hitch up to some real hogs that took us for a memorable ride...now and forever known as "Hogfest 2022."

Note that HF2022 was the brainchild of The Oracle, Scott Salzer, who magically knew when to be where. We've learned since to always seek his advice, and never to question his wisdom or mysterious ways.

The Footage:
Huevos Rancheros and other delights.

2022 saw our first official swag for the Fling. I'm no fly tier but have similar skills - handmade and handstitched.

These "reel & spool cases" also held shot glasses and assorted flies in addition to other small prizes.

Roper striking it rich on big game. I stayed out of the man's way, getting only close enough to document his exploits.

The host is also the cook! Roper makes a mean paprikash.

The Oracle doing what he does best - Scotty plots out the next day's plan.

Once the Oracle gives his orders, our Giant Slayer goes to work!

Nice report Tim, you and Mooney sure scored on the hogs that afternoon. There was lots of good eats and drinks for sure. I can’t wait to see what the Spring Fling will bring. Thanks for the great swag bag, it’s been put to good use already.
Here’s a few extra photos to go along…

I prefer to call them strike indicators.

It looks like you all had a great time, some teeth on the brookie (brookies - I thought they were missing in action?). I had to look up paprikash: yum. Thanks for sharing your report: I really enjoy stories of old buddies getting together again and again and again.

This group is fun to be part of every year. We should all be so lucky.

Tim left out Roper’s superb cooking. Oh, and there some nice Irish whiskies to be enjoyed. I like peaty scotches, which I don’t have to share.

TL - very nice. Thanks for the recap.

Love spending time with all of you
I figure that’s the only reason to drink that “campfire syrup“, no one else will want some!
