Just a heads-up The Traver writing award deadline is coming up, May 31st. It's $2500 and the entries are open to basically new, unpublished authors.

This is a fun program, I've been involved in the past as an entrant and more recently as a judge for the award. This year they are doing something different, they have a couple of evening panels, virtual, for folks who want to hear from some of the prior awardees etc what worked for them vs not, ideas about writing and so on. The details to that are below. There are a ton of strong writers on PNW FlyFishing who have never published anything who otherwise might have a notion that they could do it, you know who you are....

Hello Fly Fishing Writers!

The John D. Voelker Foundation and the American Museum of Fly Fishing are pleased to announce the dates for two panel discussions with past Robert Traver Fly-Fishing Writing Award winners and honorable mention writers, talking about their stories and their writing process. This free event is intended primarily for aspiring writers and future entrants in the Traver Award competition who are looking to raise their writing to the next level.

We are very excited to offer this opportunity for the first time and hope you will join us for some inspiration, insight and advice from our distinguished panelists.
We have scheduled two dates, with different times to accommodate east and west coast participants. Participants must register in advance and may attend either or both events.

Participants will be muted upon entry, but we will have a Q&A session after the panel discussion. You can read all the honored stories from 2019, 2020 and 2021 on the AMFF website at https://www.amff.org/traver-award/ Seth Norman's story, Edith's Rule, is in the anthology In Hemingway's Meadow (DownEast Books, 2009).

While these events are free, we encourage attendees to support the American Museum of Fly Fishing and/or the John D. Voelker Foundation.

We appreciate everyone’s past participation in the Traver Award and hope to see more of your entries in the future. The deadline for this year’s TraverAward contest is May 31, so hopefully you will have plenty of time to write and revise your stories based on tips and advice from our past honorees. Hope to see you and your stories soon.
