Repairing spliced rod tip

One of my Sharpes spliced bamboo rods has developed a crack across a spliced tip about a half inch down from the spliced tip on the middle section of the rod at the splice between the middle section and the top section. See pics below. Any ideas on the best way to repair. This part of the rod will be covered by splicing tape when I'm fishing.

This happened with one of my splice joints.....probably knocked it on the garage floor...
I glued with Tightbond and wrapped with white silk thread...then varnished. Very slight raised area, but not noticeble either visibly or with my casting ability.
I bet Mike or Steve has a better way though.

It would be best to see it in person, maybe we can connect and look it over.

If I were doing a wood repair for a similar crack I would first glue and clamp, then add small dowels glued (wooden match sticks for this application) into the split at 90 degrees to the fault. Then I would sand, and seal. For this application, I don't think a few match sticks will impact the rod's action, but will provide a lot of strength to the repaired area and prevent further separation.
