As I continue with the mental buildout of the dream skiff that I'll likely never actually build/own, would you say a spot lock motor or power poles are more useful?
I fly fish for smallmouths with a buddy on a TN river in his jet boat rigged with both troller that spot locks and power poles. He’s adept at using both in combination depending upon situation. Downsides to the power poles include their height well above the motor cowling in stowed position restricting cast options, and are a significant impediment when playing fish at the stern both stowed and deployed. They also are a bit noisy when stopping the boat in motion in rocks in current. Those things said, it’s fantastic having both available.

Like Nick indicates, if one or the other…..troller hands down.
