I recently had to head back east for work and decided to take a few days off to visit family and fish a little tailwater I grew up near and learned to fish on. This river is well known back east but I’m not going to name it. Like many of our fisheries it’s being loved to death. If you really want to know it’d be easy to figure out with the clues I’ve given already . It’s a solid little trout stream with a mix of rainbows, browns and brookies. Not a destination fishery but a great option for those in the heavily populated NE. Fishing is good for 12-15 inch fish with some big fish thrown in, especially if you concentrate on the trout management areas (catch and release). It’s also a very beautiful, heavily wooded river with few house on its banks and amazing access along most of it.
One of the best thing about the fishing was I got to head out with my dad for the first time in 5-6 years. Between Covid and living three thousand miles apart, we rarely get to do so anymore. Of course he out fished me 3-1 except for one outing where I was able to access a stretch he could not because he did not wear waders. He’s a live bait guy so I’ll use that as an excuse .
The river…
The fish….
Browns
Rainbows
Brookies
