Kenai River for trout

A few weeks ago I fly fished for large trout on the Kenai River. My friend has a cabin right on the river in Coopers Landing and his next door neighbor is a guide. The fall foliage was beautiful. First time up there for me. Caught my PB 7 pound rainbow. Lots of Dollies as well.3D49AD2E-0D53-4013-988A-F5B44229F386.jpegC882BA85-020F-4A03-B4B8-78922DBCEEFF.jpegB3B312F2-E266-47B7-852A-1300FFF2036A.jpegFC2E17C8-D93B-4804-8F78-885CAFD933FA.jpeg0C868C0B-87D7-49C5-B27C-3D2E6EC52E94.jpeg
Anyone fish this stretch in Autumn?

I cannot tell you how jealous I am of your trip and setup. How cool is that? Super stoked for you.

Someday I hope to get up there and have a trip like that. Bucket list for me for sure. Don't know if it will happen, but it's on the list.

Awesome! I did that same trip a long time ago I think late summer of 1997. We floated with a guide from I think Coopers Landing, or maybe where the Russian River enters, down to just above the lower lake. Caught lots of husky rainbows and "char" as the guide called them. Also CNR-ed one nice coho and broke of countless sockeyes that would grab our flesh flies when targeting the trout. I was 27 years old and had never seen fishing like that in my life.

Edit: just checked google Maps and it was "Sportsmans Landing" where we put in at the Russian River mouth and floated to a take out above Skiliak Lake.

My friend David, who has the cabin on the Kenai, said the best time to catch the larger wild trout is in the autumn. We caught about 40 fish each day and 24 plus times we had a trout on at the same time.
I included a photo of one of the Dollies.

Ernie! My old Grange friend! Never realized this was you until I saw your photo above.

That trip looks amazing.

Those dollies are so beautiful. Alaskans have it made in terms of fishing prospects. I don't envy them in the winter time though.
