Casting club/pond Etiquette?

I just had a good friend who lives in San Francisco call me and tell me that he was going to the San Francisco Casting and Angling Club tomorrow and was wondering if there was any etiquette that he needed to be aware of. Admittedly, the only casting pool I’ve ever been to is at a local public park, where more people know of it as a place to feed the ducks rather than a place to practice casting.

So my question is there anything I should tell him? One question he specifically asked was if he was allowed to cast a real fly (a hook) or if it had to be a piece of yarn.

Thanks in advance!

I’d just cut the hook off an old fly. Most likely there’ll be someone there to ask. Lots of great casters there and good people. Don’t be afraid to ask.
