Hey all,

Merry Christmas. Happy 2023.

Ill be around Burns in the late Spring of 2023, for about a week. Can anyone share any must see attractions, events and/or some nearby fishing areas? We will be glamping at Crane Hot Springs.

Thank you in advance, for any and all help.

Agree with Snopro on Steens, must see. Pick a spot off the South Steens gravel road with an appealing ridge top in the distance and just start hiking cross country. The vistas, flora/fauna are really something, lots of wildlife especially Dawn and dusk, lots of birds, maybe some wildflowers at low elevations? Blooms start low and go all the way to the top across the season with incredible displays if you hit it right. Fishing can be good.

Ditto with Snopro on Malheur and Alvord.

Get gas at Frenchglen store, make sure your spare is good to go.

All of the above, bring a good 3 or 4wt and hit the D and B. Late spring might be a bit early for the mountain loop, but if open, give it a go. Second on the gas in Frenchglen, but would also suggest a nice breakfast at the hotel.

Have a great trip.

Cheers

Burns, Oreogn area

First off…we “true” native Oregonians…require that the state’s name, to be pronunciated and spelled correctly, before entry into this fine state is allowed.

jk…enjoy your stay 😁

Doubt if you make the loop, the road will still be closed... Krumbo might be worth a shot, Owyhee might be a bit of a drive...

You can't visit that area without a visit to Fields for a burger and shake. Krumbo Reservoir should offer an opportunity for some decent holdover trout as well.

If you want to see birds often the best viewing is just driving around the roads South of Town. Blitzen should be worth fishing, Krumbo isn't drawn down to zero like most of the other reservoirs. Check the ODFW recreation report for up to date conditions.

This post is right on Fields for Burger and shake.. keep a small trout rod rigged up and watch for thin blue lines...
