I tried and tried to C&R 100 fish today….all I could get was 99! I missed and lost so many that any one of those would’ve been my 100…..all little recently planted stockers but what a blast! Some on emergers but casting and stripping one leech was the ticket….
I fished from 1:15-7:10 and went 6/11. The fish ranged from 15”-18” I kept three for dinner tomorrow. All were caught casting and stripping leeches with my new “Cobra” two piece……the meat looks like salmon!
Well I started working on a new rod….until I stabbed my left palm deep while carving a custom grip. Waiting for my hand to heal before carving more….at least I can still go fishing! Caught one on HRQ 5 and missed two with LMQ yesterday…..fishing today!
I guess I really must be bored with this weather……spent a little time in my cold shop looking at bamboo. Nothing motivates me right now…..there was a 6’ thin tip section from Dennis’s culms…..hmmmmm?? Not wanting to put much time or effort I thought LMQ! Lazy Man’s Quad….single strip….. period...
83 miles NW from home…..semi local. Calm but foggy all day, lots of fishers, most got skunked, some with a few. I worked hard for 3/5….C&R’d two nice rainbows, one skinny dark cutt. Broke off what felt like one of the recently stocked big boys….two nasty head shakes and bye bye fly! No bobber...
Still too cold and breezy for me to fish….so I‘m wood burning a crappie since I can’t catch any right now……scrap piece of oak, freehand the crappie and now making smoke!
So after seeing a good recent local post with a limit of crappie…..got me interested in hitting a few lakes I know that we’re decent summer crappie lakes. Is this really a productive time? Do they typically move from deeper waters in March for prespawn? After seeing that picture fish n chips...
I spent the afternoon on a local lake before the Husky‘s game. Pretty calm and sunny……the fish were rising when the breeze wasn’t there. Lots of big midges and picky trout! I managed 2/6 sight casting midge emergers. Nice to be on the water! On bamboo with my Christmas reel! Liking this setup….
I have two Orvis II large arbor reels that I used on graphite rods, made in England that I bought when they first came out. I’ve always wanted their smallest size but switched to vintage reels. So lo and behold, this one appeared at Christmas time! Very light and classy on shorty Hotrodz! I...
So just before the Seahawk’s kickoff……15 minutes in the shop I scarfed a PMQ tip section onto a hex intermediate section to make a 5’7” one piece Frankenhexquad….another shorty for the repaired St. George jr……
I’m finally getting my retirement project going…..my grandfather bought this truck in 1951 for his furniture store in Seattle. Then my dad got it in 65 and I bought it from him in 73 as a junior in high school. I bought a totaled 56 Chev and took the V8, transmission, rear end and 12 volt system...
Order now! The Green Fly Hornet! Just in time for Christmas…….for that special fly fisher! Not $9.95….or $19.95 but $159.95!! Made in the USA by Hotrodz of Burien…..not available in stores! Limited quantity, 10 per household only, act now!! (y) :p
So yesterday I started a semi regular Hotrod. Two piece, fiberglass ferrule, swelled mortised grip, 6’11” 4-5 wt. Special blank from a well known California bamboo maker that passed and his “stuff” went to my buddy Tom Bowden….he gave me a bunch of experimental sections knowing they’d turn into...
Not trout…..but drinking limits! Good thing we weren’t on the water….we would’ve been in the water! Started with beer, then Crown…..then went to my Seahawk bar…..BST had to drive home, not me! But he was happy bringing home two vintage Hardy reels and sorting through his bamboo pieces! I had him...
Got back to the shop, (cluttered garage) and did a little hacking on the strips. I used a Makita palm sander with 60 grit to rough shape the strips…..way better on the wrist and crappy finger. This is going to make life better!
This version is a one piece 6’ (no scarf) much lighter/thinner rod...
