    Fish porn, and bragging rights..

October 31st pretty much ends the fishing season for me. Most of the streams and lakes close, and the weather generally sucks until about March 1st. I'm not sure I caught enough fish this year, but sure got some nice ones! I kept a record this season of all the fish I caught over 20 inches (and...

    Horsethief and Rowland

A buddy and I drove upriver to Horsethief lake (by the Dalles) … to see if there were any SM bass that wanted to play. We found a few, but I was surprised at how much of the lake was weeded over… nearly half of the lake (west side) is un-fishable. Fairly slow fishing, but we also managed a hand...

    Paul's Secret Lake...

I drove up to Paul's secret lake yesterday, and pretty much had the water to myself.. for the first hour or so. Then it got crowded. The plan was "hoppers and droppers", and I did see grasshoppers everywhere in the grass, but only had one refusal on mine. Plan "B" was a little (#12) olive egg...

    Secret lake/hot flies...

Austin, my daughter, and I drove up to our secret lake in the WA high Cascades (it was packed with gear guys and gals pulling out with their limit!) .. and had great fun! Austin got the most, (30!) .. but Heather got the biggest and the grand slam! (rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout) ..and I...

    Coldwater closed

Probably old news (5 days ago) ..but Hwy 504 is closed due to a rock slide at mile 49. Not sure if that is before or after Coldwater Lake. Also, no idea of how long it will take to repair the road...

    Silk lines...

I fish silk lines (and bamboo rods) ..as often as I can. Most are Phoenix, and I grease them (lightly) with red Mucilin floatant, but I'm lucky to have the lines float for much more than an hour on the lakes. I would have thought they would stay on top much longer. Has anyone using silk had...

    The Spring Break expedition

I took my grandson Austin, and daughter on what has become an annual Spring Break fishing trip to some private lakes in Oregon. We had to work for the fish in between rain squalls and wind, but my of my, did we catch some nice, big, fat rainbows! Austin caught the biggest (20”+) … on a 3/4wt...

    The East side..

I managed to get in a few days on some of my favorite East Side lakes, and the fishing was excellent! We didn't catch a lot, but it doesn't take many 20"+ rainbows to make my day! A proper bend on a 4/5 bamboo rod!

    First fish for 2023

First fish for the new year, and first time I’ve seen the backing in awhile! Only problem is it’s all downhill from here… I may catch more, but doubt they’ll be as big. Great fun on a 4wt bamboo fly rod…

    Bucks Bags motor mount

I'm looking for a Bucks Bags motor mount that would fit a Sawtooth pontoon boat... anyone have one they would part with? I think "Oregonfishing.com" may have one, but I'm reluctant to send money to a web site I've never heard of. Can anyone recommend them? Of course Bucks Bags are out of stock...

    Scotty fly rod holders

I may be the last one on this list to figure it out… but for those of you still fighting to get your fly rod in and out of a Scotty rod holder, (some reels harder than others) ..just grind down about 1/4” on either side of the opening. Works good, lasts long time!

    Last fishing trip this year…!

Excellent little, last of the year fishing trip with AP and Rick Smith … up at the local I-5 rock pit. It didn’t rain on us, was fairly warm (54*) ..and just a light breeze. Unfortunately, the water was pretty dirty from runoff, and the fish had trouble finding our flies. 🤦‍♂️ We did have a...

    One Pfoot 1494

I got my 1494 Medalist back from Joe Burg (One Pfoot) today. Took about a month and a half to get the round line guide installed, but well worth the wait! Beautiful work, and I had a new reel seat, metal drag plate, sculpted pillars, and latch cover installed too. It’s a sweet LHW reel… almost...

    18 inches...!

Reminded me of some of the guys I fish with.... (my grandson is great fun to fish with, but didn’t learn to measure from me!)
