    Intermediate camo lines

I like the RIO, Airflo, and SA intermediate lines better than Cortland’s camo. But lots of people swear by the Cortland. And you’re right about the price. My experience with Cortland camo is worse coiling, more tangles in the running line, and a generally “sticky” texture. I bought one 15...

    Balanced leech dropper question

@James St. Clair you will decide what you like best and discover all the exceptions to the rules as you go. As @Matt B suggested, putting the chironomids up top can work just fine. If you rig from the eye (I do) the pattern hangs at an angle….like a jig…and every pattern is better on a jig...

    Balanced leech dropper question

Another option is to tie another batch of leeches on scud hooks. That makes it easy to use the leech as a top fly and hang another pattern below. Heavy wire scud hooks #12 or #10 have large eyes so I tie off the dropper tippet there.

    C. WA Lake Report

This is probably what I will do when my 15 year old SuperCat with the integrated pack frame eventually fails. I hang my boots (with laces tied together), fins, and waders on the strap between pontoons and carry the rods and net in one hand and roll top bag with food, water, and rain coat in the...

NFR Places to eat after (or before) fishing

Lep-re-kon Harvest Foods right off I90 in Moses has solid breakfast burritos available at 6am. Tacos La Parilla in Mattawa is a good stuff.

    C. WA Lake Report

Great report @James St. Clair ! I use adjustable force fins that fit over my size 13’s. That said, unless the walk is only a few minutes, I carry my waders, boots, extra layers, and fins to the lake to avoid overheating on the walk. Depending on the lake, I either leave my shoes on the beach or...

    Playing live music 2024

I’m three rehearsals out from kicking off my gig season. First up, we’re doing 90 minutes in the beer garden following the spring rodeo in Ellensburg. Then a private party (usually fun), and a week later an outdoor show at Dru Bru in Cle Elum. We’ve worked up a set-worth of new tunes and I’m...

Uh, do we name the lake? Trip report protocol?

The name of the lake isn’t the interesting part. Relating an experience is fun to share and makes for good reading.

    Coffee talk

The darker roast is good. It got real mellow and a little sweet. I would call it a crowd pleaser. The light roast of this El Salvador reminds me of coffee I got at Mela in Wenatchee this week. Their drip coffee options include a light roast that’s a little fruity with a dry finish that keeps...

    Pikeminnow on the fly

I’m not finding confirmation with online search but I’m pretty sure I learned from a USGS research bio that NPM have a basic, rather than acidic, digestive system. Any of the experts out there able to confirm? The conversation was about analyzing gut contents and the different lab processes that...
