Which direction is the flow going? My wife and I drove up the saddle road this morning to get a closer look. Pretty amazing even from the road and you’re seeing just a small part of it.
NE I believe. They say no risk to populated areas at this point. It is headed towards the highway though. If they have to close it, I imagine that will be super impactful to island residents.Which direction is the flow going?
Yeah pretty sure that highway is where the trucks drive from the port in Hilo to get supplies to Kona and the rest of the western part of the island. @Mingo can probably elaborate if he feels inspiredNE I believe. Thanks, we'll be in Kona at the end of January for 2 1/2 weeks.NE I believe. They say no risk to populated areas at this point. It is headed towards the highway though. If they have to close it, I imagine that will be super impactful to island residents.

I'll be there mid February. If you see an amazing caster roping fish on the beach, it's not me. I'll be the one flailing in the wind cursing. Thanks, we'll be in Kona at the end of January for 2 1/2 weeks.
We'll have to watch that closely as we are accompanying my 93 year old mother.VOG plays hell on the lungs of many people, especially the old and young or those with asthma type issues. In 2009 I was working engineering projects at the Moanalua Medical Center on Oahu when Kona (southerly) winds blew the VOG from a minor venting directly onto Oahu, and the hospitals emergency facilities were jammed with respiratory distress patients. Can only image how bad it is for those downwind of this major venting.
Medical facilities brace for influx of patients as threat of vog looms
A Vog Measurement and Prediction Program from the University of Hawaii shows there are traces of hazardous sulfur dioxide emissions surrounding the Mauna Loa eruption.www.hawaiinewsnow.com
