What are you listening to?

On KEXP just now, Nick Lowe singing a muted acoustic version of (what’s so funny about) ‘peace, love and understanding’. Written in 1974 apparently, but oh so poignant right now for me at least, really bears the testimony of time. The original full band version is a belter too.

This is an older song, but I haven't gotten out of my mind for the past 3 weeks:

DimeBrite

Saltwater fly fisherman

Among the mental ones a messenger will soon arrive.

DimeBrite

Saltwater fly fisherman

Ahead one third! Ahead two thirds! Full ahead flank and out from the belly of a whale came a prophet amen!

I listen to a lot of vintage jazz, popular, and some pretty obscure novelty tunes from yesteryear, but Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives have been showing up a lot more in my YT feed, and it's really fun to listen to. Today I had a "Wings of Pegasus" analysis video show up of a Stuart solo acoustic mandolin (shredding) performance during a concert in 2011 that is just phenomenal. I thought the 1972 Dueling Banjos TV performance I posted earlier of a 14 year old Stuart in 1972 with Lester Flatt is pretty darned impressive but the precision technique in this solo acoustic performance with "nowhere to hide clams" is just mind blowing. He actually has to quiet the audience from clapping along to get through his composition with ever increasing speed.
