Yeah...but it's still a FORD.

I'll stick with a spare key...having been stranded by several FORDS over the years. 😀

25 year old Ford Exploder. Still going strong not to mentioned the rare and one of a kind patina! 😂
Never been stranded or locked out. 😉

Your up in BC on a fishing trip, you wake up and look outside. Snow! So you started your truck up to melt the snow off it before heading to the lake. Inadvertently you hit the lock button as you back out the cab, swing the door closed and say to yourself: "SH--!" as you realize you just locked your truck with the engine running. So....... under your truck, in the snow and slush and truck exhaust fumes and look for your "betch $500 you can't find my hide a key". Can you find it? ;-)
I'm getting too damn old to be crawling around under vehicles under the best of conditions!

The spare key on the neck lanyard sits next to the InReach...and both get placed on kitchen counter the night before a trip.

After forgetting a few things on trips to the sticks over the years I developed activity specific gear lists that reside on my phone....which I use to assemble whatever is needed the day before a trip...with a quick review before I head out.

As for the InReach...it's important to confirm connection to their system before each trip (they actually have a test function thar sends a message to their emergency response system) and send a test text to your preferred recipient. Although I always do so I've never had any problem sending and receiving texts on either of the two InReach devices I've owned (the first one was one of the original Delorme Inreach and finally gave up the ghost after years of abuse).

I was a bit worried when Garmin acquired the Delorme InReach system...but they have done a much better job than Delorme, with great customer support and the development of much more rugged devices.

Finally..I should mention that I've had several motorcycling acquaintances that might have survived their accidents had they or their group had a satellite communicator...but were far out of cell service, which resulted in hours of delay before they were transported to an ER trauma center.

We also carry the InReach on motorcycle and auto trips that are frequently out of cell coverage, in the hope we could get help for ourselves or anybody we encounter along the way.
