decades ago i was a part of the AK telecommunications project. my job was to fly into these remote villages and explain what their responsibilities would be for this to work for them. bush planes, super cubs with tundra tires were the common means of transport once things sort of dried out. the first flight, the pilot told me to grab my duffel, he was not shutting off the engine, move away from the tail. as i did that he gunned the engine and was airborne. next thing i look at the back of my hands and they are covered in insects and bleeding. went over to the quasit hut and the winter entrance where they sprayed me head to toe before letting me come in. from that point on, white gloves, head net, 2" tape for sleeves and pants, never again.
