How in the world did this boat/trailer disaster happen?

When I first saw this, I thought maybe it was someone with a novel, but stupid, boat transporting idea. But then you see the trailer behind and the trailer winch hanging off the bow. That's a lot of boat to make it on top of the truck like that. What in the world is going on here? I have so many questions...

Did the guy just slam in the brakes so hard that the boat pulled some sort of Homer Simpson type gag? Were harbor freight ratchet straps the wrong cost cutting move? Is this a Photoshop/AI joke?

Regardless, gotta feel for the guy, this seems like a really bad day.

My gut tells me PS? But why? Not like it’s a good advertisement for REEL DEAL FISHING ADVENTURES.

I have a pretty good eye for photoshop and not seeing any tell-tale signs.

No transom straps, hard braking, and a weakly attached winch (you can see it dangling) could do it.

Maybe a little help from getting rear ended too?

If it’s a real photo, the truck likely sustained more damage than the boat. Unless it was rear ended.

You’re probably right. I just don’t see any damage to the truck, but it’s probably there.

I knew a guy from high school that won a settlement and bought a Fountain speed boat. Being a coke head, he was all jacked up and rear ended a buss and did the same thing, totaled a 200k boat and 60k truck.

This is why I use two straps on my drifter in addition to the bow winch.

I was confused at first before enlarging the image. Thought there was a complete trolling motor on the bow, which there may still be, but then I did spy the winch, seeming connected to the t/motor somehow, while noticing a Smokey Bear hat just peaking over the hood…not a good sign. What sticks out, or doesn’t, no straps anywhere, but spying that Mickey Mouse looking bow cradle I get the feeling that a hard application of the brakes gave that vessel the needed launch angle to settle almost perfectly centered, roofwise, on the Ram. Conversely I believe his shorts probably have skid marks in them also in a line similar to his roof.
I’ll go with the @SilverFly mention of Newton’s First Law with an additional measure of stupidity for frosting.

Gotta be photoshopped, I'm looking at the shadow of the truck, seems like sun is straight up but boat is reflecting off the bottom, maybe from the truck. And hard to believe a boat of that weight did no damage that we can see from this angle. I don't own any big boats, but wouldn't the weight of the motor in back cause that boat to slide backward? But then I think every big fish pic I see is photoshopped. Good advertising? Not sure I would use them based on this.

Most guides don't strap down on the transom. Most trailers have slick uhmw bunks. Sometimes you gotta mash some brakes. This is the result.

Everything I attach to a vehicle be it a canoe, trailer, load of trash etc I secure as if the life of those around me depend on it saying with my vehicle and secure. I don't risk other people's safety or my own financial well being by not securing my shit to my rig. I've packed eleven whitewater kayaks on a Subaru and felt 100 percent confident they were not going to move or become a hazard. I see people losing shit off vehicles all the time. You can kill someone, be sued, or have to live with the fact your idiocy caused a major life change for someone.

If you ask me this guy got a wake up call. Nobody was hurt that I know and some trick damage will drive the point home. It looks like he's on 84. This isn't a short two block drive from the hotel to the launch in Astoria. Lock it down.

My understanding from a person that stopped to check to make sure driver/guide was safe... driver slammed on breaks to not hit a deer.

Public safety reminder, always use your chain, besides the bow strap, and replace both the stern and bow straps on your trailer.

I'm honestly still going PS. The lack of visible damage to the truck gives me question.

I have on reliable source it's reel. The reel deal that is.

Another factor here is maybe this guy did strap down and the straps were degraded. They don't last forever in sun and salt. Nylon degrades and buckles rust to nothing useful. I've got several grades of strap and cordage. The good stuff gets highway duty. The seconds and further get tasks less consequential around the home.

Always just hit the dang deer. Swerving and slamming on breaks can result in worse scenarios as we see here...
