When tying fully dressed blind-eye traditional Atlantic salmon flies and precision trimming is essential for display quality flies I have several different sizes of iridectomy scissors though they are not practical for every day tying when I want to always keep my scissors in my hand. And I agree, the finest scissors are not made for tying flies.

Another place to check for surgical scissors is ebay, used ones are fine for fly tying usage, and a much better value than anything made specifically for fly tying.

Weird vibes on used surgical equipment, though.

That said, each time my kids or I get stitches I keep the scissors.

Don’t want to ruin your good scissors on wire and heavy materials…use fingernail clippers.

I appreciate the suggestions about the non-fly tying scissors. The ophthalmic ones look especially useful for tiny stuff. I really don’t tie enough small stuff to justify such specialized scissors, though, and all my fly tying stuff has to fit in a Fishpond fly tying case.

Other brands I’ll try if the Renomed don’t work out are C&F Design and Kopter.

Also, we think fly fishing/tying stuff is expensive, but barbers and dog groomers don’t bat an eye at paying $1000 for good scissors.

Have also learned that wider blades assures guidance of the blades and that there are specific files one can by to maintain or add microserrations.

Man what an interesting rabbit hole this is/has been.

Man yall don’t know want to see my tying scissors id like to know how many thousands of flies I’ve tied with my Dr Slicks with the bent tips and butterknife blades. Actually thinking about it, all my tying tools are absolutely hammered
