Leucistic birds are not all that common, as you know. We have had a leucistic crow in the area and had a leucistic black-capped chickadee at the feeder in the past.
Cornell birds showed one is Colorado that was 11+ years old when recaptured. Kind of surprises me that they can live that long.

This is a little late but one time diving on Hood Canal we came upon a big concentration of Melibe. They are very cool and it was fun watching so many of them undulating.

I was involved on a survey on the last DDT spray in the US around Enterprise, OR. I live trapped shrews - not easy due to their metabolism. Had to check traps every three hours for 48 hours. (Traveling in cougar county in the dark, unarmed, is not fun. )...
One thing about hunting snipe is they don't fly very far. If you kick one up, just watch where it lands and approach that spot. As you near the spot, get ready.... They get up quick and fly erratically.

I wouldn't leave squat at the launch. It is not just people that fish the lake that visit the launch. It only takes a few minutes for me to load up and leave. Plus, that way I can leave all my stuff on the boat and have it back at camp. If course, you have to protect your stuff from raccoons...
